Mice Extermination & Control

Mice Pest Control

Not only are mice infestations a nuisance, but they can pose a danger to people and pets in your commercial or residential building. To make their nests, mice will destroy any boxes, plastics, paper, stuffing, and cartons that they can get a hold of. Waste from mice can spread bacteria and viruses that make humans very sick or even die, such as Hantavirus and salmonella.

Deer mice are a genus of mouse that is native to America. They can be identified by their brown bodies and contrasting white undersides. They are usually a little bigger than house mice. Deer mice reproduce very quickly, and their litters can have up to eleven young. Babies mature quickly, and female deer mice usually have more than one litter every year. As you can imagine, this means that deer mice can quickly overrun an area. Deer mice are usually found in rural or agricultural areas, as opposed to suburban or urban environments.

Identifying Mice

They can gain entry through very small places. We are experienced in locating, identifying and sealing exclusion points. Damage and contamination can be significant from mice infestation.

Mice are very difficult to get rid of, and you need the help of experts to make sure that the issue won’t recur in the future.

What To Look For

One of the primary reasons that deer mice are considered dangerous is because they can transmit Hantavirus to humans. If a person inhales urine or fecal particles from an infected mouse, then they can become sick. Hantavirus has about a sixty percent mortality rate for people that contract it. The Navajo people passed down stories about how deer mice bring illness and bad luck, because they recognized that the mice were causing sickness and death. It is important that a deer mouse infestation is addressed as quickly as possible and eliminated. Dead rodents and their droppings need to be removed from the property immediately. If you have a deer mouse problem, reach out to Independent Pest Solutions right away.

A common species of mouse that humans have to deal with is the house mouse. House mice have large ears and small eyes. They are brownish or grayish in color. House mice quickly reach maturity, and can produce more than eight litters annually. Although house mice have short lifespans, they can quickly populate an area that has the resources they need. House mice are well-equipped to sneak into places that have food and shelter; they are good at jumping, climbing, and squeezing into tiny openings.

Although house mice may seem cute and harmless, they can quickly destroy areas that they decide to infest. They chew up materials, leave rub marks, and their droppings get everywhere. Mice are usually not as destructive as rats are, but they still need to be dealt with as soon as their presence is discovered. Thankfully, Independent Pest Solutions offers attic and crawlspace cleanouts after we eliminate the pest problem you are facing. House mice enjoy eating grains and cereals, and will raid your pantry if given the chance. They can gnaw or squeeze their way into packaging to devour its contents. House mice contaminate and destroy food, and can spread diseases.

Mice Extremination FAQs

Do I have to decide between feeding birds and squirrels in my yard and not having mice on my property?

In short, yes. You cannot have it both ways. If you are feeding wildlife in your yard such as birds and squirrels, then this means that mice and other rodents will also have access to that food. Mice love to eat a lot of the same things that birds and squirrels do, such as seeds and grains. Thus, bird feeders are like magnets for mice. When there’s a free food source out in the open, a mouse population isn’t going to just pass it up. If you feed your dogs outside, this can also attract mice. However, while the presence of dogs may ward away some mice while they are near their food, the type of birds that usually use a bird feeder aren’t much of a threat to mice. This is especially true because oftentimes, the contents of the feeder become scattered on the ground, making it easier for mice to scavenge for scraps.

I’m not really concerned about mice living beneath my house, so can you just make sure that they aren’t able to enter my living space?

With interior walls, electrical lines, and plumbing lines, it’s not really possible to seal mice and other rodents out of your house while still letting them run around your crawlspace. Mice are very destructive pests, and they are able to chew straight through many materials that homes are made from. When mice chew on water lines, plumbing lines, and electrical lines, it can cause extreme property damage that can be difficult to repair. The most effective way to handle mice remediation is to completely seal them out of both your crawlspace and attic.

I see mice running around on my property and on my fence sometimes, and it’s unpleasant. Can your pest control technicians keep them out of my yard completely?

To answer this question, it ultimately comes down to the fact that mice and other rodents, whether invasive or not, live in the Pacific Northwest. Although we can seal up your home to prevent them from getting in, keeping them from existing outside is another story. We cannot keep mice from ever going onto  your property. We are able to thin out the local mouse population through methods such as on-site rodent bait stations, which we can regularly refill and refresh for you with our routine pest inspections. Bait stations have what no mouse can resist: easy access to food. By using methods such as this to reduce the mouse population, we can lower the number of them on your property.
